Sarus crane is the tallest flying bird in the world with some adult males reaching up to 1.8 meters tall. These elegant birds have predominantly grey plumage with a naked red head & neck and long, pale red legs. Considered as a symbol of marital fidelity, they are believed to mate for life and pine the loss of their mates even to the point of starving to death. In Maharashtra State, they are only seen in Gondia District predominantly living in agricultural lands & are majorly spotted in Paraswada, Zhilmili & Ghattemani villages. Thus, the Sarus Cranes are unique to Gondia District & every efforts are been taken to conserve them.

In view of this, the District Tourism Committee along with the nature conservationist community of the District has thoughtfully conceptualized a unique event names as ‘Sarus Festival’ for promoting toursim in the District with major thrust on biodiversity conservation.

Paraswada is located near Gondia Airport.
